The Boardless InterActions Game
Many InterActions students prefer playing the InterActions Game
using only the cards, without the board. If you want to do this yourself, you
can use the rules below. Or you just use the game's question cards to quiz each other about InterActions
ideas.
OBJECT OF THE GAME
To score the most points by answering questions on the Question Cards.
PLAYERS
2-4 players (individuals or teams)
EQUIPMENT
- 4 sets of Question & Answer Cards (Red, Yellow, Blue and Red)
- 1 die
- Pen or pencil and a sheet of paper (for keeping score)
PLAYING THE GAME
- Starting the game:
- Separate the Question Cards into four stacks by color and shuffle each
stack.
- Choose one person to be the Scorekeeper.
- Each player rolls the die to see who goes first (highest roll goes
first, roll again to break ties).
- Take turns clockwise from the first player or team.
- Before drawing a Question Card, roll the die. Then draw a card based on
the die roll:
- 1: Blue card
- 2: Yellow card
- 3: Red card
- 4: Green card
- 5: Player (or team) chooses color.
- 6: Player (or team) on right chooses color.
- Once a Question Card has been drawn:
- The player reads the question aloud and answers it (optional time
limit of 30-60 seconds).
- The player hands the card to the player on the right.
- The player on the right turns the card over to check the answer, and
declares the answer to be correct or incorrect. Answers to
the Red, Blue, and Yellow cards must be exact. For the Green cards, the
player or team to the right makes a fair decision about whether or not
the answer is correct. Text in bold on the Answer side should be
part of the answer.
- If the question was answered correctly, the Scorekeeper adds the
points earned to the player's score on the score sheet.
- The player on the right returns the card to the bottom of the deck,
question side up.
- Scoring:
- Correct answer for Blue, Yellow or Red Question
Card: 2 points
- Correct answer for Green Question Card: 3 points
- "Bonus moves" (certain green cards only): 1 point for
each extra space
- Options for Playing the Game. Players can choose to play the game in one of the three ways listed below. The teacher can either choose a method for the class, or
the players can choose. If the players cannot decide, use Option A.
- A player draws and attempts to answer only one Question Card per
turn. Exception: A player can choose to draw a second
question card rather than accept bonus points.
- A player keeps drawing cards and answering questions until he or she gives an incorrect answer. Answering a question incorrectly ends the
turn.
- Pass or Play. Best played with two teams. Only one Question
Card per turn, no exceptions.
- At the start of the first team's turn, a player on the team draws
a Question Card and reads it aloud.
- The team decides whether to play (answer the question) or pass
the card to the other team.
- If the team chooses play, they attempt to answer the
question.
- Correct answer: The first team is awarded the
points for answering the question, plus any bonus points.
- Incorrect answer or no answer: No score awarded to
either team.
- If the team chooses pass, the second team tries to
answer the question.
- Correct answer: The second team is awarded the
points for answering the question, plus any bonus points.
- Incorrect answer or no answer: The first team (who
passed the card) is awarded the points for the card, not
including bonus points.
- The second team takes their turn with the same pass or play option.
Then the first team takes their turn again, and so on until the game
ends.
- If there are more than two teams or players, and a player chooses
to pass the card, the player who gets the card should be
chosen randomly using the die. Three players: 1-3: player to
left; 4-6: player to right. Four players: 1-2: player to
left; 3-4: second player to left (or right); 5-6: player to right.
